Monday August 13th- I woke up and went for one last jog while we were in Waikiki. I woke up early and headed out before sunrise. I took my camera this time in hopes to catch the sunrise. It was a neat experience. I headed back running extra fast so that nobody would worry too much but everyone was still asleep when I got back. After we got everything packed up, Joey and I headed over to McDonalds for breakfast. We wanted to be sure to eat before we got to the ship in case they didn't have food ready when we boarded. It was interesting because McDonalds served pineapple with all of their breakfast meals. They also had spam and portugese sausage on the menu. Once on the boat we were all directed up to the 12th deck to the buffet area to wait for our staterooms to be ready. We were on the 4th deck (the lowest deck) so our rooms were finished last. It wasn't too terrible of a wait though. We were able to get lunch and have drinks by the pool. Once we got settled into our rooms, they announced that hurricane flossie shouldn't cause too many problems for us and we set sail around 5:30. We ate dinner at the buffet and wandered around the ship to get our bearings on where everything was.
Tuesday August 14th- We missed our first port, Hilo, because of the high winds caused by hurricane flossie. Also, we were scheduled to go see Volcanoes National Park and they had an earthquake overnight so I doubt we would have been able to go anyway. We spent the day at sea. We went swimming and lounged around our room and got to see the island of Maloki'i. Joey's Dad participated in the pup crawl and we followed and got our own drinks and took some pictures. Afterward we went to dinner at Alizars and then to 50s night in the lounge.
Wednesday August 15th- We landed in Maui and spent the morning at the pool and around on the ship. At 2 we headed to our bus to take us to the Luau. Joey's Dad got his luggage right before we got on the bus. Our busdriver was very entertaining and telling us about all the vegetation as we drove around the island. He took us to a little park by the Iao Needle and we were able to take pictures and whatnot. Then we headed off to Lahina for our luau. It was fun. We at a lot of strange things. I really enjoyed the purple sweet potato and the pork. I also had some raw Ahi and Salmon... they were cubed up small and tasted alright. I prefered the ahi over the salmon. I also was brave enough (nobody else at my table tried it) to eat the octopus. I thought it was raw but it turned out to be steamed. It was actually quite good. I only had one little chunk though because that's all I grabbed since it was scary looking... you could see the little suction thingys on it... The only thing I didn't try was the chicken noodle stuff. The noodles were clear and they looked like gelatin... very gross looking. I couldn't bring myself to try it. Joey and I got to try a ton of different cocktails while we were there too. They were included in the price of the luau so we had about 5 each. The show they put on was pretty good and told a story about how Hawaiian traditions came about and evolved over the years. We got back and went straight to bed.
More later...
