I'm still here and favorite marathon signs

I'm feeling better and I have run a few times since the marathon. The first time I got out there it was a little tough. I did my regular 5 mile lunch-time loop and the first two miles or so were rough. My legs were not exactly sore anymore but they were just not feeling it. By the turn around point they were mostly back to normal though.
I have had thoughts of things I want to write about in this space but I've been busy and haven't ever gotten around to it. I promise to continue to write though.
Here are some final thoughts on the marathon that I don't want to forget.
The spectators were great. I especially enjoyed reading all the signs. I mentioned how Megan had the sign "You run better than Metro" and that was definitely a favorite. I wanted to  mention a few others before I forget.
"You've done worse for longer!"
"You're not even close" (spied around mile 11)
"You're almost there" followed directly by "That's what she said"
"Beat Oprah"
"Worst Parade Ever" (this sign I saw at least 5 times. It was funny the first time but a tad over used)
There were some other really good ones but I can't remember them now. One that I saw within the first 2-3 miles was particularly funny but it was too early in the race and I can't even remember what it was about.
The other thing I enjoyed was reading the back of people's shirts. Some people were running to honor love ones who passed and they had photos on their backs.
Others just wrote funny sayings or quotes. Around the 10k mark I passed a guy who had a sign on his back that said "I thought this was a 5k". Later on in the race I passed a guy who had a Princess Bride quote written out "Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die." And another from Monty Python "I'm not dead yet. I feel happy." (I saw this one around mile 20 and it made me laugh out loud).
Although I have no other marathon or any other race with so many people to compare it too, I definitely appreciated all the signs, especially those that made me laugh or crack a smile.

That's all I have today. I have been enjoying my time not running long on the weekends, though I do miss it a little. I am just not ready to get back out there. I have been cooking, baking, cleaning my poor neglected house, and walking Delilah. We've been enjoying the beautiful fall weather we are still having!

I always like reading t-shirts and signs. I saw the parade sign in a race and thought it was funny but only saw it once. I love the "you're not even close" one!

Did you see the Occupy Haines Point signs? They read "We are the 99%...that will never run a marathon. YOU are the 1% that is!"

I have never seen "worst parade ever" but that is funny! I hope to see some good ones out there!

People over here don't use their race shirt for quotes and stuff very often here.

Actually the phrase "you're almost there"is the one I hate the most, especially when someone is screaming that at a 15K race and you've just past the 1K mark.

signs and shirts are the best during races. i saw one once that said something like "if i listened to my body i'd be in bed eating a danish".

your legs sound normal - mine are always sluggish after a marathon / long run. don't force them into anything too soon, just keep taking it easy (And short!)
