As some of your know, I got engaged back in March!! Then I proceeded to not talk about it since then.
Joey and I are pretty relaxed about this whole process and are planning our wedding very slowly. It is being planned though.
Over the summer we started throwing around ideas for a wedding date. I know the traditional way is to find a venue and then schedule the date according to what is available... or set a date that you love for one reason or another (I hear 11/11/11 was a big day for weddings) and work around that date. Well, that isn't exactly what we did. Being somewhat of a numbers geek I suggested we get married on 9/10/11 but Joey wasn't as amused as I was. Anyway, he suggested March so I looked through the Saturday dates and chose 3/3/12! So yes, we will be married in less than 4 months! It sounds crazy but I also can't wait.
In the spirit of being non-traditional, we also have no yet booked our venue. I know, I know, that sounds crazy with the wedding being less than 4 months out but the place we want to rent won't take reservations for 2012 until January. So we will just have to call on the first business day of 2012 and book the place. It shouldn't be a big deal. It's not a tradional wedding venue by any stretch of the imagination and I doubt it would be in high demand in March. No worries.
Next up, I HAVE A DRESS!! I not only have a dress but I have a dress that I LOVE and can't wait to wear. It didn't break the bank and it is very "me". I took off a day from work and took my two best girls shopping with me. We had a great day of dress shopping and lunch in Georgetown. Shopping in Georgetown a few weeks before running down M st. in the marathon made that portion of the race that much more fun for me.
I also have a Maid of Honor! I asked my best friend and former roomie to be my one and only attendant in the wedding. When we went dress shopping, she also picked out a dress of her own to wear. I was very lenient and told her she could pick her style and color (but I had to approve of the color). She was really drawn to the shades of purple but I was less enthusiastic with those options (I want to wear red shoes and don't really want a Ravens colored wedding). So we settled on a blueish green color... except the dress she loved didn't come in that color so she ended up with red. So my wedding colors are red, black, and white. Sounds formal but I assure you this wedding will be anything but.
I just booked our honeymoon! I'll share details of this after we get back. I'm VERY excited though.
I picked out our invitations online but I haven't pulled the trigger on them yet. I want to make sure that we get the place booked before I print the invitations. We plan to print them as soon as we finalize all the details and then send them out ASAP!
We mostly finalized our guest list last night. Now I just need to gather addresses so we can easily send out the invitations when we get them.
Oh, maybe I should mention how the wedding itself is going to work. We plan to have a small, intimate family wedding in a church followed by a reception with our extended family and friends. I say small and intimate but Joey comes from a big family so with our close friends and family we could have anywhere from 20-30 people at the actual wedding ceremony. The reception will be anywhere from 75-100 depending on who actually comes. Joey has a lot of family out of state that we aren't sure will travel for the event (and we honestly don't mind if they can't make it <--- that sounds mean but I don't mean it that way, just that we aren't looking for a big fanfare so it's no big deal if people can't come).
We already have ideas of the food items we want to serve at the reception and ideas for desserts. We also have a photographer. Our best friend, Lisa (who took most of the photos in my marathon post) will be doing all the photography. She assists at weddings for a professional photographer and has done a few weddings by herself. She also did our engagement photos.
Well, I don't think I have any other updates but you can see we've made a lot of progress!

yay for wedding planning! I'm sure you're going to be a beautiful bride!
Yay for weddings! :) Sounds like you guys know what you want even if you don't have everything quite booked yet! LOL! Good luck with the rest of your planning!!! I can't wait to see how it all unfolds and hear about your day!
You have a lot taken care of and are in good shape for the big day!
I like lowkey weddings too (not many guests). It's fun to be able to remember who actually came!
Things are coming along smoothly - yay! I like 3/3/12, is a good number and I like March! Can't wait to hear more about it!!
Hope you're all recovered from the race! :)
I do like small weddings and you sound like yours will be just what you want. Congrats!
Wedding, is really the biggest and special event that happens once in a lifetime. It must be well prepared to have a best and perfect wedding.
glad it's all coming together! sounds like you guys are getting to have what you both want - which is always good! (having to do things b/c a parent or family member 'thinks it should be that way' is no fun). i know what you mean on not worrying if people can't make it - i wanted a small affair as well - plus it helps to keep the cost down!
I'm impressed you were able to buy a dress in Georgetown and not break the bank :) I didn't know that was possible!
The next few months will fly by!
sounds like you have everything almost in order. i hope you get your venue cause then you'll be set. :)
Very awesome. You're going to have a great day! :)
